Bentwood hammock stand

A South American Indian hammock is a perfect alternative for a bed. If you want to use your hammock for sleeping, choose one that is large enough to allow you to lie diagonally in it. Just imagine: you get up, hang your bed up to one side and the room is tidy. In Europe, most hammocks are used instead of garden chairs or lounge beds.

Bas Hogenkamp and Hannie Luijpen started importing hammocks from Mexico in 1979. Nowadays Hoog Hangmatten stocks hammocks from Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador. We do not sell hammocks with spreader bars because of the danger of tipping out. Apart from that, the choice is almost unlimited: from baby mats and baby beds (for the smallest hammock-lovers) and simple single hammocks to luxury king-size hammocks (guaranteed to carry up to 250 kg), and a variety of hammock stands.

Amigos Weaving Workshop

‘Amigos’ hammocks

The ‘Amigos’ hammocks are made by hand, from unbleached cotton, by a small-scale development assistance project in Southeast Brazil. The project was started by ‘Amigos de Caceres’, a small Dutch NGO. The idea was to offer single mothers more opportunities to care for their children by creating employment and therefore a source of income.

Amigos Weaving Workshop

A weaving workshop was set up, where second-hand renovated looms from the Netherlands are used to make hammocks and other woven products. We have been importing the ‘Amigos’ hammocks since 2001. At present the weaving workshop is closed (we hope temporarily) as the project is having financial difficulties. We still have ‘Amigos’-hammocks in stock.
